One Positive Action Give it a Name

Sometimes the hardest part of a day is the vague heaviness that follows you around after it’s over. You feel off, but you cannot quite explain why and push through.

Unidentified emotions tend to grow louder when you don’t name them. They show up with tension, irritability, and unexplainable stress. You react without realizing what you are reacting from.

Take a quiet moment and ask yourself a simple question: What am I actually feeling right now? Be specific. Not just, “bad,.” “Stressed,” “disappointed,” “lonely,” “overstimulated,” or “resentful” are clearer. When you label an emotion accurately, your nervous system begins to settle. The feeling becomes something you are experiencing, not something that is controlling you.

Emotions lose some of their intensity when they are acknowledged. You move from reacting unconsciously to responding with awareness.

At some point today, pause and write down one sentence: “Right now, I feel __.” Fill in the blank honestly and sit with it for a minute. Notice how naming the emotion creates a little more space inside you.
